The Journey to International Racing

Representing Canada at the International Dory Races is an honour earned through dedication, teamwork, determination, and a passion for one of our oldest maritime traditions.

The journey begins with the Canadian International Team Elimination Races, where crews compete for the opportunity to represent Canada on the international stage. Winning crews earn the privilege of racing against the top American teams in both Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, and Gloucester, Massachusetts, as each community proudly hosts one of the two International Dory Racing competitions each season.

More than a series of races, the International Dory Races celebrate 75 years of friendly competition, sportsmanship, and the shared maritime heritage of Canada and the United States. Whether competing in the historic harbour of Lunenburg or along Gloucester's iconic waterfront, rowers become part of a tradition that has brought generations of athletes, families, and communities together.

Each international race weekend offers opportunities to meet fellow competitors, participate in social events, and celebrate the accomplishments of both Canadian and American crews. Lifelong friendships are forged, unforgettable memories are created, and the spirit of dory racing continues to grow with every passing season.

While competitors are responsible for some travel and personal expenses, the Canadian Dory Racing Association often helps offset a portion of those costs. More importantly, you'll become part of a welcoming community dedicated to preserving one of Atlantic Canada's most treasured sporting traditions.

If you've ever dreamed of representing Canada, now is the time to get involved. Train with purpose, race with pride, and embrace the opportunity to compete on an international stage.

We look forward to cheering you on as you become part of the next chapter in the proud tradition of Canadian dory racing.
