Honouring Our Heritage
The Canadian Dory Racing Association is built on a proud legacy of dedication, sportsmanship, and community. For more than 75 years, generations of volunteers have worked to preserve the traditions of dory racing while ensuring the sport continues to thrive for future generations.
Among those who continue to carry this legacy forward are Garnet and Diane Heisler, whose commitment to the Association reflects a deep connection to its history and future.
Garnet & Diane Heisler
Garnet is the son of Lloyd Heisler, who, together with Tom Frontiero of Gloucester, Massachusetts, helped establish the International Dory Races in 1952. What began as a friendly challenge between two fishermen has grown into one of Atlantic Canada's most cherished maritime sporting traditions.
Together, Garnet and Diane have devoted many years to supporting the Canadian Dory Racing Association through their volunteer service, leadership, and unwavering commitment to the sport. Their passion for preserving the traditions of dory racing, while welcoming and encouraging new generations of rowers, embodies the spirit of the Association.
Their continued involvement serves as a living connection between the founders of the International Dory Races and the vibrant rowing community that exists today.
"Honouring our heritage means celebrating the people whose dedication ensures our traditions continue to inspire future generations."
